X Months in with the Moonlander Mk. 1
For the past half year or so, I've been using the Moonlander Mark 1 as my main keyboard.
Update 4/14/2026: About 1.5 years in, and I am still using this as my keyboard. Even though it doesn't look as gorgeous as my more standard mechanical keyboard, I had to switch over because my hands/wrists were really hurting. I really like the customizability of it for hotkeys. Some of my favorite programmed keys:
- The key to the left of 'a' sends ctrl-Z.
- Holding 'x', 'c', 'v', 'a', 'f', 's', instead sends ctrl plus that key.
- Holding '2' sends F2, great for renaming.
- There are four 'thumb' buttons on each side. My left thumb can access space, left click, "windows key"/start menu key, and enter. Right thumb has enter, backspace, alt, and escape available.
- Holding 'b' allows the remaining fingers on my left hand to access a numpad layer. Holding the key where left ctrl normally is changes the layer so my right hand has access to numpad keys.
These hotkeys developed organically over time as I searched for ways to make some tasks easier at work and for my personal computer projects. Honestly, it's kind of a mess, and probably a third of these custom keybindings I never use anymore. But here is a link to my layout at the moment, if you're looking to customize your own layout. I wouldn't recommend copying this exactly, but instead to get some ideas for what could work for you.
